Welcome to KiddReads. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the KiddReads website and services. By using KiddReads, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Who may use KiddReads
KiddReads is a book-discovery service designed for children. Accounts must be created by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old. A parent may create profiles for their children. Children may use KiddReads only through a profile created and supervised by their parent or guardian.
Children under 13 may not create their own accounts. If we learn that a child under 13 has registered without verifiable parental consent, we will delete the account promptly.
2. Accounts
- The parent or guardian who creates a family account is responsible for it and for all activity under it and its child profiles.
- Provide accurate information and keep your password and your children's PINs confidential.
- Tell us promptly if you believe an account has been used without permission.
3. Acceptable use
When using KiddReads, you agree not to:
- post content that is hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate for a children's audience;
- include personal contact information (such as a phone number, address, email, or full real name) in a review;
- attempt to disrupt, hack, scrape, or overload the service;
- misrepresent your identity or use the service for any unlawful purpose.
4. Reviews and submitted content
Reviews and ratings you submit are screened by an automated moderation filter and may be reviewed before they appear. We may decline to publish, or may remove, any content at our discretion — particularly content that is inappropriate for children. By submitting a review, you grant KiddReads a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it within the service. The parent or guardian who created the family account is responsible for all content submitted under it, including reviews submitted by child profiles.
5. Book information and the "Seb" assistant
KiddReads provides book listings, descriptions, reading levels, and AI-assisted recommendations through our "Seb" librarian feature. We work hard to keep the catalogue age-appropriate and accurate, but listings and AI recommendations are provided for discovery purposes and are not guarantees. Parents should review books before they are read by their children.
6. Intellectual property
KiddReads and its design, text, and software are owned by KiddReads or its licensors. Book titles, cover images, and descriptions belong to their respective publishers and authors. You may use the service for personal, non-commercial use.
7. Service availability
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of KiddReads at any time. We are not liable for any unavailability of the service.
8. Disclaimers
KiddReads is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every listing is perfectly accurate or suitable.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, KiddReads will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. In any case, KiddReads' total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the service will not exceed the amount you paid to KiddReads in the twelve months before the claim arose. Because KiddReads is currently free, that amount is zero.
10. Termination
You may stop using KiddReads and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where practical, notify account holders by email. Continued use of KiddReads after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
